Psquare and 2face who has more hits
I said 2Baba has the most hits and people who don't know any better are saying P-Square.
On what planet?
The same P-Square known for sampling tons of foreign songs over and over again?
At least, 2Baba only contested one or two songs with Blackface Naija in his entire musical career, and that's pretty much a clean sheet for someone who's been in the game since the late 90s.
If we're to go by the amount of copied songs in P-Square's catalogue, technically, some of their hit songs are not originally theirs! And that's a big minus.
Their sampling habit began from day one.
The title track of their debut album "Last Nite" was made with Marvin Gaye's "S£xual Healing" beat.
The same beat was sampled in the track "Story".
While the song "Temptation" is a sample of UK singer Nathan's "Come Into My Room".
The "Uh-oh, uh-oh" in "Bizzy Body" was bitten from Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" and then
Fugees "Ready or Not" was the second verse.
"Bizzy Body" remix is basically Daddy Yankee's "Gasolina".
Listen to "Miss You Die" and "Omoge Mi" and tell me you don't hear similar chords in Toni Braxton's "Spanish Guitar" and Westlife's "Soledad'.
Oh, and their 2005 dance track "Get Squared" sounds like they spent time studying the concept used in Usher, Lil John and Ludacris's monster hit "Yeah!" released the previous year 2004.
"Bunieya" has been a popular church song since time immemorial.
"Bank Alert" rings back to Onyeka Onwenu's "Iyogogo"
Just to mention but a few.
Sampling isn't bad per se, but the frequency with which they did it can't be ignored.
2Baba, with his numerous hits which none of these other nigg@s have attained yet, wasn't a Mr copy copy.
His beats and lyrics never reminded you of something you'd heard before.
So his authenticity is a plus.
His track record of number one songs may one day be overshadowed by newer artists.
But for now, the amount of album, singles and feature hits in his bag supersedes every Nigerian artiste, past and present.
Happy weekend.
