From buns seller to lawyer

From a BREAD SELLER to a BARRISTER

The story of Toh Clodette Tang

I'm Toh Clodette, was born in a family of 8, I am at my early 30s and it's been a very long journey, I've been through a lot but grace sustained me,  at one point I felt like giving up because of the humiliation I kept getting from freinds who were living a better life than mine.

there is nothing I didn't do to raise money while growing up.

People calls  me "Humble Lady" , yes life challenges  humbled me, you may not know, I had to stay humble, determined and focused in order to achieve my goals in life. I was very young when I started working in people's farms for money, I would go from one forest to the other harvest leaves and ero just to raise money.

While in the High School I hucked boiled groundnut in the whole town of Bangangte just to ensure I had my fees.

To cut the long story short, I finally wrote my Advance Level and was amongst the first three best students in our centre but there was no way to further my education, I had no choice than to stop there.

This was when I went back to the street as a full time hustler, I engaged into bread selling and my plan was to sell  bread for a year and go back to school, my dream of becoming a Lawyer was still very much alive.

While on the  streets, I hustled like there was no tomorrow, all I had were big dreams but with no franc nor sponsor to count on, my only hope was on the bread I was selling, during holidays and weekends  when I see freinds in town from school I will hide behind this truck just to avoid mockery. After about 8 months in that job, I couldn't continue because I had serious Chest pàin, pushing this truck wasn't easy.

The worse happened when I resigned from bread selling and went back to my village (Kom) and out of frustration, I started  learning embroidery (marking contri clothes). During that period, some freinds called and texted just to laugh and mock at me by saying " So after the struggle through secondary school you  ended up in the village marking traditional dresses?" these comments came from those freinds who futhered their education after A/Levels and those who got married will say I can't go to school and even getting a husband is more than me. All these comments weighed me down and I felt like my whole life was coming to an end, I felt like I just couldn't take life anymore, I was so depressed and I had to block some freinds so as to have my peace of mind.

From embodery work I went for a secretary work and I kept climbing the ladder, I finally went back to the University in 2019 after 5 years of being at home and receiving all sorts of insûlts and humiliation.

Today I'm here to tell you that on the 25th day of September 2024, I took my first oath as an Advocate - In - Training into the Cameroon Bar Association and by the Grace of God, two years from now I will come back here to announce that I've been finally called to Bar as a full fledge Lawyer. This is a dream come true.

I will never stop thanking my parents who stood by me, outsiders complained and said I will never make it, some complained that I'm not getting married (as if they are the ones to collect my bride price) but my parents gave me all the moral support I needed and even though they had no money, they always tried their best. My father will always say, "Don't rush into marriage my daughter, take your time".

Dear brothers and sisters, stay calm, when it is God's time in your life all those who mocked at you will joint you celebrate, keep pushing because the only páinful revenge you can give your enémy is success.

Through out my hustle, I stayed positive, humble, determined, resilient, focused and respectful even to my háters.

Be patient and know that at God's own time He will make things happen.
